Film+conversation: Let's Talk About: The Nakba and Palestinian Identity in the Media

Tuesday, May 23

Melahuset
18:00

Introducing "Let's Talk About: The Nakba and Palestinian Identity in the Media", the first event in Kawaakibi Foundation's#Letstalkabout series. This event will mark the Oslo premiere of Jordanian Palestinian director Darin J Sallam's latest movie, Farha, (with english subtitles) and its relevance to the 75th Nakba Anniversary.

The Nakba, meaning "Catastrophe" in Arabic, refers to the forced displacement of at least 750 000 Palestinians from their homes during the 1948 war, resulting in the creation of the state of Israel and an ongoing struggle for the Palestinian people. Sallam's film offers a poignant exploration of identity, displacement, and loss, themes that resonate deeply with Palestinians and advocates of human rights and social justice.

The event will take place on May 23rd at 18:00 in Melahuset, and attendees will have the opportunity to engage in a Q&A session led by Line Khateeb from Palestinakomiteen to gain a deeper understanding of the historical and political context of the Nakba.

The event will be in English. Free entry.

Movie + conversation: Let's talk about: The Nakba and Palestinian Identity in the Media

On Tuesday, May 23, the Kawaakibi Foundation will host the event "Let's talk about: The Nakba and Palestinian Identity in the Media" to help provide a greater understanding of the historical and political context of the Nakba.

This is the first event in Kawaakibi Foundation's #Letstalkabout series. There will be a Norwegian premiere of the film "Farah", directed by Jordanian-Lebanese director Darin J Sallam, followed by a conversation about the film's relevance to the 75th anniversary of the Nakba. "Farah" is a poignant exploration of identity, displacement and loss - themes that resonate with Palestinians and advocates for human rights and social justice.

Nakba is Arabic for catastrophe and marks the beginning of Israel's assault on Palestine and the Palestinian people. With the creation of the State of Israel, 13,000 Palestinians were killed and 750,000 were displaced. Today, nearly 6 million Palestinians still live as refugees.

The film will be followed by a Q&A, led by Line Khateeb from the Palestine Committee.

The event will be held in English and admission is free.
