On September 11, 1973, Chile was subjected to a bloody coup d'état led by army chief Augusto Pinochet and his military junta. Melahuset marks the resistance to this coup with a concert by the Chilean group Calle Mambo.
Songs We Carry is a collaborative project in which oud virtuoso Saied Silbak and multi-instrumentalist Ana Silvera explore commonalities between their musical heritages; the emotional melancholy of Ladino (Judeo-Spanish) and the rich maqams and intricate melodies of the Arabic song. Conveying family stories and tales of cultural traditions, Silbak and Silvera open up a world not only around the music, but also to the lives and cultures that shaped it.
