- A meeting between different (folk) music traditions
With backgrounds from everything from Moroccan folk music, reggae and indie to jazz and pop, Baba Jalil Band offers a concert where everything from gnawa music and Sahara blues to issawa and dakka marrakchiya, merge into a rhythmic and catchy sound.
Baba Jalil Band consists of Khalid Laaouam, who was born in Morocco and began his musical career with Sufi folk music as a child. He later learned the Ghaita flute, various percussion instruments and the saxophone. Raciel Torres is a drummer and rhythm genius from Cuba, bassist Erlend A. Tredal is known from several pop and indie projects, Olav Torget is a recognized and versatile guitarist and Othman Hmimar, a well-known gnawa musician with a background from Hoba Hoba Spirit.
The concert will create a meeting between different (folk) music traditions where the joy of playing and curiosity serve as a common reference point.
