Opening concert in Rådhushallen
August 16, 2024
Oslo City Hall
17.00
Welcome to this year's opening concert where you can experience one of our foremost sitar players, Dr. Rohini Sahajpal, in interaction with the foremost performer of Indian classical music, Rakesh Chaurasia on the bamboo flute bansuri, the virtuoso tabla player Satyajit Talwalkar and the eminent jazz artists Jon Balke on piano and Mats Eilertsen on bass.
"I've always been genuinely interested in strengthening the Indian raga essence in my music, despite the fact that I've had direct contact with the right environments due to my upbringing in Norway. The collaboration with Rakesh and Satyajit has therefore been musically inspiring. In many ways, I can say that my role in this context has been to offer who I actually am, to show the soft transition between the different worlds that characterize my background and which I hope is reflected in my music. At the same time, an extra dimension unfolds; as a practicing doctor, I'm given a different kind of insight and experience that, together with the music, gives strength to the different spheres in which I live and which shape the path I take."
