Oslo World – Salon Marie Rose with Shaden, Frida Marida, etc.

Saturday 5 November

Melahuset
15:00

A queer-Arab social pop-up gathering place in Oslo

Salon Marie Rose will commemorate the beautiful, strong queer artist, poet and writer Etel Adnan (1925-2021), who passed away in November 2021, and takes its inspiration from the novel about the Lebanese civil war in Sitt Marie Rose, by Etel Adnan.

Adnan's complex and diasporic identities, which include characters with Greek and Syrian parents, with a Lebanese upbringing, as well as Americans and French in exile, have been a major inspiration for queer Arab art and literature for more than five decades. Now Adnan's work has inspired this interdisciplinary, cosmopolitan and quirky concept that we are excited to share with the public.

Program:
15.00-18.00: Mingling, pop-up library and films on loop, with the opportunity to buy books by and about queer Arabs
18.00: Opening with Frida Marida and serving of finger food
18.15-18.45: Poetry reading, in memory of Etel Adnan, in English, Norwegian and Arabic.
19:00-19:50: Film screening: Ismyrne (2016, 50 min), directed by Joana Hadjithomas and Khalil Joreige
20:30-21:45: Stand-up with Shaden (in Arabic)

Shaden is a Lebanese comedian, actress and rebel. As the Middle East's first openly queer comedian, Shaden tackles what are still considered controversial topics, such as female sexuality, homosexuality, racism, religion and mental health, in his shows.

Salon Marie Rose is a project created by Masahat, for Arab Culture in Exile, in collaboration with Skeiv Verden, Oslo World and Melahuset .
