Grenseløst Oslo: A cultural evening for Palestine

Saturday, October 19

Melahuset
7:00 P.M.

Grenseløst Oslo is back with its second event this year and this time in collaboration with "Social Workers Against Genocide".

We want to have an evening where we can honor the Palestinian culture together and at the same time lower our shoulders while reminiscing together. Everyone is welcome to this free event.

Palestinian music, song, poetry, dance, dabke courses and an art exhibition are on the agenda this evening:

Ibrahim Nasser is a poet, activist and entrepreneur. He is the founder of Nasser Palestine, a family business based in Ramallah and Oslo that works to share and preserve the Palestinian culture and food heritage. Ibrahim Nasser tells the authentic Palestinian story through poetry, stories, spices and food.

Ahmad Alak is a Syrian singer and oud player with roots in classical Arabic and Sufi music. Through improvisation and fusion, he discovers new themes in his music.

DJ Daeva is an Oslo-based DJ and artist who was born and raised in Tehran. Since 2004, Daeva has been a prominent figure in Oslo's club and festival scene, as well as playing club stages in countries such as Sweden, Belgium and France. She invites audiences to adventures of sound and movement across seven continents.

Aya Abunahel grew up in Gaza and started dabke when she was 7 years old. Here in Oslo, she spends all her free time on dabke and also holds regular courses.

A concert with the Maria Orieta Band is a call to your dancing feet as well as your heart; the music ranges from cumbia and ska to heartbeat folk - and it always rocks! The band consists of Misett Johansen on drums, Taran Greni on bass, Liv Santos on keyboards and Maria Orieta herself on guitar and vocals. Their latest release is called "Jeg har hørt" and is a cumbia/reggaeton that is dedicated to everyone who fights for a free Palestine and who wants a better world.

Heidar Al Dirawi was born in Lebanon, but calls himself a Palestinian. He now has three nationalities, as he is also a Norwegian citizen. He has been drawing since he was 5-6 years old, and in addition to exhibitions in Norway, he has also exhibited in countries such as Greece, Denmark and Sweden. In his previous exhibitions, El-Dirawi has addressed themes such as women's freedom, politics, love and religion. He has also painted for Haiti after the earthquake disaster. And as he says himself: "I have my ideas, feelings and opinions, and I express them through art.

There will also be a few words from social workers Firdawsa Ahmad and Helene Skaatan from Social Workers Against Genocide and Elin Langli, organizational deputy head of the Palestine Committee in Norway.

Doors open at 19:00
