Never Forget

Today we are in solidarity with the rest of the country. The attack on the government quarter and AUF's youth camp on Utøya was not just an attack on them, but on the whole of Norway. It was an attack on the Norwegian community and on the diversity we have in this country. It was also an attack on cultural diversity. For where the same forces that were behind the attack had thought that we, as a nation, would hide and perhaps avoid celebrating the cultural differences between us, we chose to come together and resist these forces and never forget. We must never forget the 77 people who were robbed of their lives that day. We must never forget the bereaved. We must never forget that hateful attitudes and utterances can lead to extreme actions. We must never save!

The attitudes that led to July 22 still exist. We all have a responsibility to confront them and prevent them from taking action again.

- Leader of the Labor Party, Jonas Gahr Støre and leader of AUF Astrid Willa Eide Hoem, to NRK, 17.07.21
