Norwegian-Somalian Diaspora: DUR-DUR BAND Int'l

Melahuset invites you to the Mela Fokus event series , where we highlight different cultural expressions and artists with roots in different countries. As Somalis make up the largest African community in Norway, this year's focus is Somalia.

Concert: Dur Dur Band Int'l

Dur-Dur Band Int'l is a revival band in exile in London who have resumed the the legacy of the Major Major Band, one of the biggest Somali funk bands of the 1980s. At the time Mogadishu was called "The Pearl of the Indian Ocean" and was a cosmopolitan tourist destination with a vibrant music scene, then came the civil war in 1991.

On Friday 17 June, the legendary eight-piece band brings its mix of Somali funk, disco and soft soul to Melahuset.
