With a core band consisting of, among others, Per Mathisen, Raciel Torres, and Jai Shankar, the musical companionship is in the very best hands. The group ensures that musical doors with catchy and rhythmic roots from various corners of the world open up. Mazuze's excellent saxophone playing is deeply rooted in African jazz, and the melodies are supported by a powerful rhythm section that allows for improvisation, creating a moving landscape between jazz and a wide-ranging African sound. This evening, they also bring along exciting new voices - and a new repertoire as a direct result of the latest commissioned work, "Penuka."
