18:00 to 19:30 - Creole literature: a meeting point

Three writers; from opposite sides of the world meet in Oslo. They write from the country where they were born, and although their cultures are far apart, the Creole language brings them together. Creole, which has its origins in the early colonial period, is a hybrid language. Creole carries and transmits a past that is both painful and joyful, as well as a heritage of rebellion and perseverance.

Ari Gautier (India/Madagascar), Priya Hein (Mauritius) and James Noël (Haiti) meet during the Francophonie festival for a literary deep dive into each other's work.

University of Florida Professor Kevin Meehan will introduce this meeting.

Signe Prøis, editor at Camino Publishing, is also taking part in this debate.

The meeting will be moderated by Geir Uvsløkk (UiO).

The event will take place in French and will be simultaneously translated into Norwegian by Christina Mediaas.

20:00 to 21:30 - Concert with Maya Kamaty

Maya Kamaty is a singer and songwriter from the French island of Réunion. Her music is a journey between tradition and modernity. Through it, she expresses her Creole roots. With her new EP "Sovaz" ("wild" in English), which she defines as "Kreol Urban pop", Maya Kamaty sings of a deep commitment that reflects a society in revolt. These are the words of a strong and independent woman

𝗠𝗮𝘆𝗮 𝗞𝗮𝗺𝗮𝘁𝘆 is a singer-songwriter from 𝗟𝗮 𝗥𝗲́𝘂𝗻𝗶𝗼𝗻. Through her music, a true journey between tradition and modernity, she wants to claim her roots.
