We are still breathing - conversation with Yohan Shanmugaratnam

- I have written the book for my children, and a large part of the story is also the story of my parents. This is what journalist and author Yohan Shanmugaratnam said when he met Mohamed Abdi for a conversation about migration, racism and the book "We are still breathing". The talks were part of the launch of Samora Forum 4/2020. See footage here.

The conversation was part of the launch of Samora Forum 4/2020 and was initiated by the slut Guro Sibeko and Khalid Salimi, editor-in-chief of Samora Forum.

" We are still breathing " is the debut of Klassekampen journalist Yohan Shanmugaratnam and was out in October. The book is written as memoirs from the author's upbringing in Sri Lanka, Japan and Norway, and includes small - and large events such as the murder of Benjamin Hermansen, 11 September and 22 July, and their consequences for the discourse on racism. The book was also written in the months after the murder of George Floyd, and thus draws inspiration from the Black Lives Matter movement in title, action and view of the world.

On Melahuset heats Guro Sibeko up the audience with slut poetry. Sibeko is an author and slut and in the autumn of 2019 published the critically acclaimed book "The Poetics of Racism".

In the new edition of Samora Forum In addition to the review of "We are still breathing", you can also read about Black History Month Norway, global migration up through history, the play "Line 5" and the documentary "The Art Of Sin".
