In memory of Amina Sewali

It is with great sadness that we learned of Amina Sewali's passing.

"A soul talent with an extraordinary voice." This is how he described Melafestivalen Amina Sewali when she was going to perform at the festival in 2014. Two years earlier she had stood on stage at Rådhusplassen together with Bugge Wesseltoft and Rafaqat Ali Khan, and both times Amina convinced with her voice, her charisma and her presence on stage.

Amina Sewali was an artist, musician, composer, screenwriter and actress from Uganda, living in Oslo, who has left a clear mark in music, literature and theatre. She was part of the group Forente minoriteter before making her album debut as a solo artist in 2011. Amina was also a trained actress from Det Multinorske, and has been an actress in the NRK series Glatte gater , the film 99% örlig and at the Nationaltheatret, a composer at Teater Innlandet and was one of the playwrights on the plays Tæsjern på Grønland and Patty og ulven . In 2020 she published the children's book Hør'a dagbok!. The book became part of the curriculum for fifth grade in Norwegian, which led to it being nominated for the Critics' Award, the Bookworm Award and the Children's Book Award. In 2021 she was one of the winners of the Riksteatrets Rikspitch.

We remember Amina as an enormous talent and a skilled artist. Our thoughts go out to her closest friends and family.
