Hurja – "crazy", "wild", "completely wild" → "Kymmen'tuasea hurjaa gatšaa". Powerful word that can be associated with both physical and mental unruliness.
Under the banner Hurja, this year's MelaKlubb, in collaboration with the Kven-Norwegian Disco Association, offers what we believe must be the world's first purely Kven electronic club and concert evening.
DJ Rune Lindbæk's career stretches back to the local radio days (and Northern Norwegian record mixing championships) in Tromsø in the 80s. Nowadays he plays sporadically, but regularly, in clubs all over the world, from Hærverk in Oslo) via Ibiza to Odessa. His over 30-year career as a producer and recording artist spans genres from breakbeats to ambient, balearic and cosmic.
Gul Sol is the fresh duo of artist and poet Inger Emilie Solheim and DJ and producer Martin Bjørnersen, from Alta and Groruddalen respectively. During the summer they performed the sound work/performance concert "Seks Stammers Møte" together, at Nitja Center for Contemporary Art and Førde International Folk Music Festival. This will be Gul Sol's Oslo premiere, with an expression that mixes poetry (in Kven and Norwegian), recitation, beats, field recordings and sound collage, performed live and improvised.
Birk Arvola presents a soundscape that is characterized by his background as a DJ and as a producer and beatmaker. The sound plays in and between the alternative, noisy and at times absurd. As a producer for the artist h*nning, Arvola has worked with the more peculiar sphere of hip-hop, while his "recreational" experiments venture into electronica, plunderphonics and deconstructed. This evening, Arvola will present songs from his upcoming EP, repackaged and reconstructed to fit the club landscape. You can expect electronica, hip-hop and some quirky breaks.
