– Gqom , bass and breaks
DJ Lag is a pioneering South African producer and DJ, one of those who shaped and globalized the gqom sound; a raw, percussive subgenre of house music that originated in the east coast city of Durban. Since his teens, DJ Lag has been breaking boundaries, both sonically and geographically, and is today one of the most important figures in global electronic music.
He recently released the song "Woza" where he takes a step towards 3 Step, a genre that lies in the landscape between gqom, amapiano and afro tech, and thus he continues to expand the contours of South African dance music, while staying true to the rhythmic intensity that has defined his work.
Ta1da is the alias of Norwegian-Zimbabwean artist and producer Johannes Tawanda. With a love for bass-driven music and grooves, he delivers high-tempo club music in explosive sets.
In June he released his first EP, "Here's The K1cker" - where the music moves between genres such as electro, techno, hardcore and jersey and baltimore club. Think bass and breaks. As one of the initiators behind the club concept Pulse Oslo, he also actively works to push genre boundaries and a diverse club scene in the city. At MelaKlubb you can enjoy his own productions in a high-energy live set.
Ornella is shaped by Oslo's club scene and the perspective from the dance floor. She plays on how genres such as house, electro, breaks, drum & bass and techno meet in music history. The sets have a clear direction, but allow for twists and open lines. With a relaxed but energetic approach to genre mixing, she creates a flow that invites movement.
Endre 3000 has been pushing South African electronic music in clubs in Oslo for over ten years, and in recent years he has also DJed in cities such as Durban, Kampala and Nairobi. The Durban genre gqom is almost a given in Endre 3000's DJ sets, so expect an edgy, funky and dark atmosphere before the “gqom king” DJ Lag takes the DJ booth at Kafé Hærverk. Endre 3000, also known as Endre Dalen, is a DJ, music journalist, graphic designer, label manager for Digital Diaspora, long-time Mela employee and former editor of the anti-racist magazine Samora Forum.
