– Classic and innovative interaction
With her soulful and unique playing style, Roopa Panesar captivates audiences, and it is with good reason that she is referred to as one of the best sitar players on the Indian music scene in the UK. This will be her first concert in Norway.
Roopa Panesar was born in London but grew up in Leicester and at the age of seven she began her apprenticeship with the renowned teacher and musician Ustad Dharambir Singh ji MBE, who remains her musical guru. Panesar is renowned for her unique playing style and has performed at leading venues such as the Barbican and the Southbank Centre, toured both nationally and internationally, and collaborated with everyone from Mercury Prize winner Talvin Singh to the Belgium Symphony Orchestra. At this MelaKlassisk, Roopa Panesar will be accompanied by Gurdain Rayatt on tabla. Both musicians are masters of the classical tradition, but also enjoy exploring jazz and other musical traditions, and the audience can look forward to an improvised, innovative and soulful interplay.
