– Classic ragas and talas with a unique twist

From expressive khayals and thumris to intricate ghazals, Nayan Parlikar showcases a repertoire that spans the entire spectrum of Hindustani music.

Nayan Parlikar began singing at the age of 4 and showed herself to be a great talent early on. She is known for her versatility and for her expressive performances, which seamlessly incorporate elements of folk music, fusion and Western classical music, thus creating a completely unique musical expression. Her concerts are characterized by impressive singing techniques and soulful performances. At MelaKlassisk she performs with Suvrat Apte on tabla and KG Westman on surbahar. Apte began playing tabla at the age of 8 with his guru Sanjay Karandikar. He has later been trained by both Pandit Ramdas Palsule and Ustad Zakir Hussain. KG Westman started as a guitarist, but discovered Indian classical music in the 90s and is today a leading European sitar and surbahar player who has apprenticed with Pandit Rabindra Narayan Goswami, among others.
