LADY BLANCHE
City Hall Square, Main Stage
August 14th – 16th
TBA
– Afro-Cuban hip hop, trap and flute
With her explosive mix of hip hop, cumbia, dancehall, reggae and reggaeton, Cuban singer, flautist and percussionist Yaite Ramos Rodriguez, known by the stage name La Dame Blanche, delivers a raw, sensual and irresistible mix that evokes the desire to dance.
La Dame Blanche's story begins in Cuba, and born into a musical family, she was raised on sones, rumbas and boleros. Her father, Jesus "Aguaje" Ramos, is a renowned trombonist who has also been the musical director of the Buena Vista Social Club. Yaite herself chose the classical flute as her instrument, but despite her musical heritage, she has always been determined to find her own voice.
After studying classical flute at Havana's Escuela Nacional de Arte, she moved to Paris and the artist La Dame Blanche was born. La Dame Blanche has created her own musical nerve by perfecting urban Cuban hip-hop in conjunction with the flute and Afro-Cuban rhythms and roots. And her songs dig deep into the Cuban soul and deal with everything from female strength, Santería spirituality and everyday life in the barrio.
