– Groundbreaking and danceable genre experimentation
F1rstman truly lives up to his name and has established himself as one of the leading South Asian artists creating new musical styles based on genre play, and a refreshing and groundbreaking sound.
F1rstman, whose real name is Hassan Syed, was born in Lahore but grew up in the Netherlands. He started playing various percussion instruments at an early age before discovering hip-hop in his teens, and his musical style is truly influenced by his cultural background; from the Bollywood music he grew up with, the Arabic melodies he picked up in the neighborhood shisha cafes, and the qawwali and Sufi melodies his father listened to. He has combined this with Western hip-hop and R&B, and his genre experimentation is both groundbreaking and danceable, with heavy beats and lots of energy.
Despite millions of streams and countless gold and platinum successes, F1rstman is most concerned with spreading joy, energy and community – something he will surely be able to do at Rådhusplassen in August.
