Festival for Palestine welcomes you to a listening session and conversation with musician and DJ Falyakon at Melahuset Tuesday, August 11.

Taraweed conversation and listening session:
Festival For Palestine talks to Falyakon about what the traditional women's song means for the Palestinian resistance struggle.
Falyakon will talk about her research project and audio archive documenting the traditional Palestinian women's song "Taraweed". She will talk about what it means to preserve oral histories, memories and cultural heritage through field recordings and listening practices. During the conversation, the audience will hear recordings of the songs.

Falyakon will also play at Festival For Palestine on August 12th. 

BIO Falyakon ; Berlin-based Palestinian artist whose work weaves traditional sounds with contemporary electronic music. As a flutist, selector and sound artist, she crafts immersive soundscapes that fuse Palestinian field recordings with inventive production, honoring ancestral sounds while turning archival stories into intimate musical experiences, to evoke memories, and cultural continuity.

In this session, there will be a listening journey and a conversation about this live archive, where you will share field recordings collected by Palestinian women from different regions, along with their stories, the meanings of the songs, and the social and cultural contexts in which they were born.

The session brings together listening, speaking, and discussion, as well as the journey of documenting the project, the challenges that accompanied the collection of these songs, and the importance of preserving the Palestinian oral heritage in the form of forms of memory and cultural resistance.

The session also includes the presentation of excerpts from the short video, which is part of the process of searching and collecting the songs, and opens the scope for drawing with the audience around the music, the language, and the memory.
