Oslo World – Art, archiving and why it is important for history

Tuesday, November 1

Melahuset
10:00

Artistic freedom of expression is under pressure and artists often find themselves at the center, as well as on the front lines, of conflicts and dramatic societal changes. Women and other minorities are particularly vulnerable.

The topic of this conversation is the importance of art in society and the role of archiving under authoritarian regimes. How can parts of history be prevented from being lost? Belarus is one of many countries where state authorities have in recent years tightened their grip on artistic freedom of expression. Panelists include Stina Högkvist, Director of Exhibitions and Collections at the National Museum, Arnt Fredheim, art historian and curator, and Zhanna Gladko, Belarusian visual artist.

Zhanna Gladko's " RELENTLESS FLOW OF TIME" is exhibited at Melahuset during the festival week.

In collaboration with Safemuse and Hvitsten salon .
