UN Day Seminar: “What is Islamophobia, and how can we counteract it?”

Wednesday, March 12

Melahuset
14:00
What is Islamophobia, how does it affect individuals and society, and what can we do about it?

On the occasion of the UN Day Against Islamophobia on March 15, Stop Hate Speech invites organizations, professionals, teachers and everyone who works with attitude-building work to a professional seminar on Thursday, March 12 on how we can together combat Islamophobia and strengthen the inclusion of minorities.

The seminar explores Islamophobia, anti-Muslim sentiment and racialization, and how these phenomena affect individuals and society. Cora Alexa Døving from the HL Center is one of Norway's leading researchers on Islamophobia and anti-Muslim sentiment, Uzair Ahmed from C-REX has researched radicalization and racialization, and author Bibi Fatima Musavi shares experiences as a hijab-wearing Muslim. Muslim guides show how attitude change can be done in practice.

The UN Day Against Islamophobia was established to commemorate the victims of the terrorist attack on two mosques in Christchurch, New Zealand, on 15 March 2019, in which 51 people lost their lives. The day is a reminder that Islamophobia is a global challenge that requires collective action.

Organizers: Stop Hate Speech, August 10 Foundation , Muslim Dialogue Network
