Dabke evening

The traditional dance dabke symbolizes community, joy and cultural resistance. Dabke evenings at Melahuset is a social meeting place where you will have the opportunity to learn some basic steps, but there will also be many opportunities to dance dabke to live music.

This evening we invite you to an energetic and fun workshop with Yasmin Mouafak, there will be a concert with Razan, Safaa Al-Saadi, Khaled Lawze and Samer Alhafez.

Do you want to hear the story of the Palestinian dabke?

Would you like to hear the story of the Palestinian Dabke, and the songs Zareef altool and ween a Ramallah? Then join the dance with Yasmin Mouafak.

Workshop in dabke:
Join us for an energetic and fun workshop in the traditional folk dance from the Levant! You will learn the basic steps, rhythm and how to dance in a circle – shoulder to shoulder with others.

You don't need any prior knowledge, just comfortable shoes and a good mood. Come and experience the music, the steps and the community!

About the artists tonight:

Yasmin Mouafak is a Dabke dancer and she has held several Dabke workshops in a number of events in Oslo.

Razan is a Palestinian singer who has sung at several Palestinian events and occasions. Through her voice, she uses songs and music as a space for identity and belonging.

Khaled Lawze is an oud player from Damascus who is currently based in Oslo.

Samer Alhafez is a Syrian guitarist and vocalist based in Oslo.

Safaa Al-Saadi is an Iraqi composer, arranger and multi-instrumentalist. He lives and works in Oslo, and creates music that is deeply rooted in traditions from Mesopotamia. Safaa has given a number of concerts in Norway and Europe, both as a soloist and in various ensembles. He has worked as a music workshop leader in a number of countries and has taught, among other things, schools and colleges.
