Welcome to African Cabaret, a new series on Melahuset where Sidiki Camara and guests use music and storytelling to introduce the audience to more of the intricate aspects of many of the African cultures.

On Wednesday 18 June, Sidiki Camara has Rob Waring with him on balafon.

CC: 100,- at the door (Vipps or cash)

The music on African Cabaret is inspired by older musical traditions from Mali, Sidiki Camara's homeland, and especially the music played during traditional ceremonies such as baptisms, weddings, other rites of passage, and oral storytelling. It is primarily composed for traditional instruments such as balafon, djembe, drums, calabash and the string instrument n'goni and in combination with saxophone, guitar, vibraphone, bass and vocals.

Storytelling is also of great importance to many African communities and contributes to everything from the preservation of stories to learning about norms and values.
