Vijay Prashad: The Global South and “Hyper-Imperialism”. Keynote Lecture and Discussion

Monday, April 28th invites Melahuset for a keynote lecture and conversation with Indian historian Vijay Prashad. The theme of the lecture and conversation is how the various political struggles in the global south are still strongly linked to authoritarian, capitalist and oppressive regimes. After the lecture, there will be a conversation between Prashad and author and journalist Yohan Shanmugaratnam.

Vijay Prashad is an Indian historian and journalist, based in Santiago de Chile. He has written more than 40 books, including Washington Bullets, Red Star Over the Third World, The Darker Nations: A People's History of the Third World and The Poorer Nations: A Possible History of the Global South. His books The Withdrawal: Iraq, Libya, Afghanistan, and the Fragility of US Power (2022) and On Cuba (2024), which he co-authored with Noam Chomsky.

Prashad is director of the Tricontinental: Institute for Social Research and chief correspondent for Globetrotter. He is the editor of LeftWord Books (New Delhi), Inkani Books (Johannesburg), and La Trocha (Chile). He is also a regular writer in the Klassekampens Horisont column.

He has appeared in two films, Shadow World (2016) and Two Meetings (2017).
