Forgotten crises: Congo & Sundan

Amnesty International Oslo and Fellesrådet for Africa welcomes you to an expert panel conversation on Congo & Sudan: The Forgotten Crises the World Must Talk About.
We have all heard these crises being mentioned, but few of us actually have knowledge about what is happening. When Western media fail to convey two of the world’s largest humanitarian crises, we want to take matters into our own hands and invite you to a panel conversation where you can listen to experts with different backgrounds sharing knowledge and experiences from Congo and Sudan.
You do not need any prior knowledge to attend – this evening is organized for learning purposes and anyone can follow the panel conversation.
There will be two segments, one for each country, with the following program:
1. Introduction to the country´s history and current situation
2. Panel conversation
3. Q&A with the audience

Panelists Sudan:
– Liv Tønnesen: Norwegian research professor at Chr. Michelsen institutt, specializes in Sudanese politics, gender and peace building
– Pio Ding: South-Sudanese human-rights worker, now the Africa Area Director at Redd Barna
– Maren Sæbø: Norwegian freelance journalist, with main focus on news and stories from Africa. Producer on the podcast “Afrikansk politikk”
– Salma Abdalla: Sudanese independent researcher in political science and expert commentator on Sudan
Panelists Congo:
– Raïs Neza Boneza: Norwegian-Congolese writer, researcher and peace advocate
– Anna Fliflet: Polish-Norwegian humanitarian worker, now senior advocacy advisor at Leger uten Grenser
– John Mpongo Akerø-Kasongo: Norwegian-Congolese social worker, bridge builder and human-rights advocate
– Bjørnar Østby: Norwegian lecturer in peace and conflict studies at Oslo Nye Høyskole. Producer on the podcast “Afrikansk politikk”
